A Tale of Two Events

Trying to compose a post about today - I have typed and backspaced, typed and backspaced, and typed and backspaced again.

Let me just say this. God created dogs. Satan created dog shows. (This is not me whining because we didn't win. Scout actually won breed and received a Group 4 placement today. Something else happened at the show today that sucked all the enjoyment out of winning. I am not going to go into the details in this public forum - I just want to vent.)

Now for the bright side - I am so glad I left that show and drove a few miles to Susie Noel's annual Tennysea Corgi Picnic for the benefit of CorgiAid. There I saw a whole bunch of dogs who have never been to a dog show - dogs many of us would call "poorly bred." Many were rescues - we left before the Rescue Parade started, but I am sure that that most of the dogs there were in the parade - a couple on carts, at least one on three legs. There were dogs with dropped ears and extraordinarily fluffy dogs. But what they all had in common was that they were all obviously now in situations where they are deeply loved and cared for.

One of the two events I attended today was all about the dogs. The other one was not.

Yeah for the picnic: I'm glad that you got to go.

I so want to go someday, but Tennysea is a long way from Orygun.

Yup -- it's a bit of a trek to Albaturkey as well, but a grand event.

It sounds like the picnic was a wonderful experience--and congrats on your BOB and Group 4!

Keep the good stuff and let the bad stuff go. Sounds like the picnic was definately the good stuff! And a group 4 placement is a bit good too! Congrats to our sister and auntie!

From all accounts, the Tennysea picnic is a sweet and love-filled event. I vow that one of these days, I will make the trek south and attend. I'm so happy that you were able to fast follow the show with an experience that was filled with love and joy. What a wonderful way to regain perspective and grounding. And yes, congrats on the wins.

Well, glad your day ended good. I've always wanted to attend the Tennysea Corgi picnic. Sorry, you had to endure bad stuff at the show. You sure have my curiousity going. LOL.

I hear ya about dog shows (conformation dog shows, that it). I love teaching obedience to my 4-Hers but the downside is that I also have to teach showmanship, which I have never enjoyed but want them to at least have a handle on it because we offer it at county and state levels. I hate it because I know it's leading them into that dark world of gossip, backstabbing, cheating, fibbing and just general no-goodness that can go on. But I hope they take the high road if ever they get involved.
